Yes! The purpose of this web site is to provide stories from PALS (People with ALS) and care givers about turning points in their illness and how they handled these issues so others can find information, help, and encouragement.

Disclaimer:This site contains discussion of medical issues which should not be taken as medical advice. You can get ideas and information here, but always discuss medical issues with your doctor.

Not everyone wants to know everything up front. Some people, just due to their temperament, can only deal with "today's issues," and thinking about the future may cause unnecessary stress. My wife, Susan, is like this, but I wanted to know the details so I could "map" the future to some extent. If you are a care giver or friend sharing these stories with a PALS, be sensitive and ask often, "Is this overwhelming to you?" But this can be a cover for denial. Someone close, if not the PALS, needs to be thinking of the future. For some PALS the disease moves quickly, and the future may be next month.

Some of these stories come from the online ALS Digest, with permission. Email Bob Broedel at bro@huey.met.fsu.edu to receive the Digest regularly via email. Back issues are available at:
